Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2025: Forty Years on the Frozen Lake

Official Story

The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz celebrated its 40th anniversary in January 2025, confirming its place as the world’s premier high-goal polo tournament played on snow. Since its creation in 1985, the event has transformed the frozen lake of St. Moritz into one of winter’s most exclusive sporting venues, where elite polo meets Alpine hospitality.

The anniversary edition brought together six international teams competing over three days of world-class polo in front of thousands of spectators. Beyond the sporting action, the tournament once again combined competition, luxury hospitality and the unique atmosphere that has made St. Moritz a global winter destination.

This landmark edition was supported by long-standing international partners including FlexjetLand of Fire AzerbaijanThe Kusnacht PracticeCasablancaWorld Polo LeagueTAOS, and Mackage, all contributing to an event where sport, lifestyle and hospitality naturally come together.

After three days of competition, Flexjet claimed the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2025 title, adding another memorable chapter to the tournament’s forty-year history.

My Editorial Experience

Arriving in St. Moritz, I quickly realised that the Snow Polo World Cup is much more than a polo tournament. Long before the first match begins, the Polo Village is already full of visitors exploring the partner stands, luxury brands, hospitality lounges and the media centre. It was also my first opportunity to discover the VIP tents and experience the unique atmosphere that surrounds this remarkable event.

Every corner of the venue offered something new to discover. Elegant winter fashion, beautifully designed exhibition spaces and guests from all over the world created an atmosphere unlike any other sporting event I have attended. It was also surprising to meet many familiar faces from other international events, showing how loyal many visitors are to St. Moritz and its winter season.

As a photographer, my attention was naturally drawn to the people. Guests arrived wearing spectacular fur coats, colourful cashmere scarves and carefully chosen winter outfits, transforming the frozen lake into an open-air fashion show. Around me, influencers and content creators were constantly filming short videos and taking photographs for Instagram and other social media platforms, while photographers searched for the perfect light and background.

Watching the sports photographers was almost as fascinating as watching the polo itself. Alongside journalists carrying compact cameras stood professionals equipped with enormous telephoto lenses, some more than a metre long, waiting patiently for the perfect moment as horses charged across the snow.

One of the highlights was how easy it was to meet the players themselves. Many came from Argentina and other Spanish-speaking countries, making conversations relaxed and natural. Between matches, there was always time to exchange a few words, learn about their horses and better understand the passion behind this unique sport.

As the afternoon matches came to an end, the atmosphere changed once again. During the day, jazz and live bands entertained visitors across the Polo Village. Around 4:30 p.m., the DJ took over, people gathered around the bars, music became louder and the celebration continued well into the evening.

Glasses of Perrier-Jouët, the tournament’s official champagne partner, could be seen everywhere. Unlike many luxury events, enjoying a glass or even a bottle felt surprisingly accessible, encouraging guests to stay longer and continue conversations after the final chukka.

Later, the experience naturally continued in St. Moritz itself. Restaurants filled with players, guests and organisers, while private dinners and evening gatherings became an extension of the tournament. It was during these moments that the true character of the Snow Polo World Cup became clear. Beyond the matches, it is a place where polo, hospitality, fashion and international friendships come together, making St. Moritz one of the world’s most remarkable winter destinations.
